France plans all-news network

France will launch an international all-news network by 2005, the prime minister says, calling the need for a “French vision” in news broadcasts more timely than ever.
Jean-Pierre Raffarin said the new channel would be run jointly by state broadcaster France Televisions and privately owned media company TF1. Part of what President Jacques Chirac has called the “battle of footage,” the channel was conceived to provide a French counterpoint to networks like CNN and the British Broadcasting Corp.
