If there’s no primary for
the recall election, why are
the Republican and Democratic parties having formal meetings?
*
The California Republican Party convention is a gathering of activists and elected officials that was scheduled before the recall election was called. And although the recall is listed as a discussion item, party officials say there are no plans to choose an official party candidate for the election.
The California Democratic Party held its convention earlier this year, at which party delegates voted to oppose the recall. Party officials gathered this weekend for a special meeting to endorse Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante on the second half of the recall ballot.
