Keeping windows safe for birds
From time to time you have featured articles and letters offering solutions on how to prevent birds from flying into large, sunny windows, either killing or maiming them [“On Alert for Feathered Friends,” March 10]. We had the problem for years, trying decals and other solutions to no avail.
Last year we happened upon what we think is the perfect solution: We purchased three 18-inch-long, hard plastic spirals -- clear, with a rainbow of colors painted on the edges. We hung them at varying heights from the eaves over a 5-by-8-foot window.
The spirals create pleasing patterns that mesmerize us when the sun hits them. Most important, we have not had a bird fly into the window.
We shop in the Torrance area and purchased ours at Armstrong Nursery and Wild Birds Unlimited for about $12 each.
