From Times Staff Reports — A former mayor of Azusa was convicted by a federal jury Friday of failing to report more than $200,000 in income to the Internal Revenue Service.
Stephen J. Alexander, 49, who also is an attorney, faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced June 27.
In his 1997 tax return, Alexander reported $14,885 in income. In sworn testimony in a civil lawsuit, however, he admitted receiving more than $200,000 that year.
Alexander served as Azusa’s mayor from 1994 to 1997 and previously was a city councilman for four years.
