The judge at the accounting fraud trial of HealthSouth Corp. founder Richard Scrushy dismissed a juror because of unidentified “external events.”
U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre dismissed the panelist after saying the events “could raise questions” about the juror. Sixteen of the original 18 jurors and alternates remain at the trial. Scrushy, 52, denies charges of inflating profit by $2.7 billion, laundering money and obstructing justice.
Separately, HealthSouth disclosed that it expected to restate its shareholders’ equity downward by $3.8 billion to $4.6 billion.
