‘Lambs’: From movie to musical

Late last year, Brian Nash, a 26-year-old New York music director, learned about a website created by brothers Jon and Al Kaplan in Los Angeles with comic songs inspired by the 1991 movie “The Silence of the Lambs.”

Nash was immediately struck by the songs’ questionable taste and theatrical possibilities. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is so wrong,’ ” he said in an interview. “I’m a big fan of wrong.”

Apparently, so are other people. The show he helped create with those songs, “Silence! The Musical,” had its first public performance Friday at the ninth annual New York International Fringe Festival, and all six engagements at the 299-seat Lucille Lortel Theatre in Greenwich Village are sold out.

In the audience, Nash hopes, will be a major producer who sees a future for the show.
