Judge Orders Former Candidate Detained

From Times Wire Reports

A court ordered the detention of the runner-up in Egypt’s presidential election, Ayman Nour, along with his five fellow defendants as their trial on forgery charges approached its end.

Judge Abdel Salam Gomaa gave no reason for ruling that Nour, who faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, and the others should be held, but Egyptian judges often issue such orders before a guilty verdict.

All six pleaded not guilty to forging signatures on the petition that Nour filed to register his Al Ghad (Tomorrow) Party.
