Identity-Theft Unit Created for D.A.’s Office

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved creation of an identity-theft unit in the county district attorney’s office.
The board’s unanimous vote authorized more than $970,000 over the next 18 months to pay for one investigator and three deputy district attorneys, each of whom will focus on a different part of the county.
Dist. Atty. Michael A. Ramos told supervisors that his office had filed 313 identity-theft cases this year, compared with 68 cases five years ago.
