U2 tour is year’s most lucrative
U2’s “Vertigo” tour attracted more than 3 million fans and grossed more than $260 million worldwide to lead Billboard’s list of the year’s top-grossing concert tours. That more than doubled the take for the No. 2 finisher, the Eagles, which pulled in $117 million from 77 performances during the tracking period of Nov. 17, 2004, to Nov. 15, 2005.
Returning to the concert trail, Neil Diamond landed the No. 3 spot after playing to more than a million fans, who paid $71 million to see him. Rounding out the top five were country singer Kenny Chesney, who grossed $63 million and drew more than 1.1 million fans -- an attendance figure second only to U2 -- and Paul McCartney, whose shows grossed $60 million.
