A glowing element

Mercury glass is no longer made with mercury -- and no longer limited to shades of silver, thanks to the new lamp company Luminous. Designer Cilla Zweig stumbled across a factory near San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, that maintained old molds for decorative glass, and the light bulb switched on in her head. She added hardware to three forms -- a bottle, a square decanter and a bulb -- in pungent metallic chartreuse, cobalt, orange and turquoise. The results sell for about $300 at L.A. stores including Gibson, (323) 934-4248, and the Velvet Garden, (323) 852-1766, as well as Stewart Galleries in Palm Springs, (760) 325-0878.
