Holiday closures

The following schedule will be in effect in observance of Christmas Eve day:
Government: All city, county and federal offices and courts will be closed; most will remain closed until Jan. 3.
Mail: Post offices will be open and mail will be delivered. Post offices will be closed Sunday and Monday, and Jan. 1 and 2. Only express mail will be delivered those days.
Libraries: Most will be closed.
Banks: Most will be open.
Public transportation: Metrolink trains and Orange County Transportation Authority buses will run on normal schedules. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer free rides from 9 p.m. Saturday to midnight Christmas Day.
Trash collection: Service will be delayed a day for the week of Dec. 25. Cities served by Waste Management of Orange County and Newport Beach will follow their regular schedule.
