Five people were hurt when an MTA bus was hit from behind by another vehicle and then struck a downtown fire hydrant late Friday night, officials said Saturday.
The Line 18 bus was heading west on 5th Street near San Pedro Street when it was rear-ended shortly after 11 p.m., said Bill Heard, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The collision caused the driver to lose control of the bus, which then hit the hydrant, he said.
