Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting Telephone Pole

From Times Staff Reports

A man riding a motorcycle at nearly 100 mph died Saturday after losing control and crashing into a telephone pole, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that three motorcyclists had passed them at high speeds, heading south on Sepulveda Boulevard just north of Mulholland Drive about 7:30 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Officer Sara Faden.

One of the motorcyclists crossed the double yellow line, clipped another vehicle and slammed into a telephone pole. The unidentified man was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
