From Times Wire Reports
The International Whaling Commission rejected Japan’s proposal to allow limited hunts of minke whales, dealing another blow to efforts to roll back a worldwide moratorium on commercial whaling.
Holding its annual meeting in Ulsan, South Korea, the commission defeated the proposal 29 to 26, with three abstentions.
Japan had proposed killing up to 150 minke whales in waters off its northern coast to “alleviate the hardships of small coastal whaling communities.”
