Crosby’s Two Goals Lead Penguin Win

Sidney Crosby had his first two-goal game in the NHL and set up another Pittsburgh score, and the Penguins rode a rare early lead to a 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday night at Uniondale, N.Y.
Crosby, the 18-year-old No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, had a goal and an assist in the first period and scored again in the third off a pass from Mario Lemieux.
Edmonton 4, Detroit 3 -- Raffi Torres scored 1:51 into overtime for Edmonton on the road to end the Red Wings’ nine-game winning streak.
Ottawa 4, Tampa Bay 2 -- Dany Heatley assisted on Daniel Alfredsson’s first-period goal at home for the Senators to extend his team-record points streak to 12 games to begin the season.
New York Rangers 4, New Jersey 2 -- Jaromir Jagr scored his NHL-leading 13th and 14th goals, and Michael Nylander also had two goals on the road for New York.
Philadelphia 8, Washington 1 -- Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne and Jon Sim each scored twice for the Flyers, who have won three of their last four games and five in a row at home.
Carolina 4, Toronto 3 -- Erik Cole scored with 1:34 left in regulation as Carolina rallied at home to win its sixth in a row.
Boston 4, Florida 1 -- Hannu Toivonen made 15 saves in the third period and finished with 29 at home to help the Bruins improve to 3-0-4 in their last seven games.
Calgary 2, Columbus 1 -- Marcus Nilson scored the winning goal and had an assist at home for the Flames, who won consecutive games for the first time this season.
