Garth’s return: In what is being billed as his first TV performance since announcing his retirement a few years back, Garth Brooks will sing on “Grand Ole Opry Live!,” celebrating the Opry’s 80th anniversary, at 8 p.m. Saturday on cable’s GAC channel.

Reality prize: Noting that reality shows now comprise “a substantial portion of the prime-time schedule,” the Directors Guild of America said Thursday that it would add a prize to its annual awards dinner for directorial achievement in reality programs.

Departing: “Good Morning America” weatherman Tony Perkins says he is leaving the ABC morning show in December to return to WTTG-TV, the Fox affiliate in Washington, D.C., where his family still resides.

New series: CBS has given full-season orders to “Criminal Minds,” “Ghost Whisperer” and “How I Met Your Mother,” while Fox has done the same for “Bones” and “The War at Home.”
