Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited a camp in Pelham for victims of Hurricane Katrina and said she was reassured that the residents, all housed in recreational vehicles, were well treated.
“For the time being, they’ve got a lot of people who care about them,” said Rice, who spent her first 13 years in Alabama. “And they’ve got kids in schools, and that’s really terrific.”
The camp, set up by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is at Oak Mountain State Park, south of Birmingham.
