Basking in the rewards of helping out

THANK you for Rosemary McClure’s illuminating article on the efforts of Habitat for Humanity in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina to rebuild their homes and lives [“A Good Trip in Deed,” Oct. 16].
Having just returned from volunteer work in New Orleans, I wish I could transport every American to that forlorn spot in order to vividly illustrate the desperate need for assistance on every level.
We can wait for our government to drag its feet to the next obstacle, or we can roll up our sleeves and pitch in. Believe me, the latter is the most rewarding choice of a lifetime.
