Gelson’s Parent Posts 3% Rise in Net Income

Arden Group Inc., parent of the Gelson’s chain of upscale markets, said its second-quarter profit rose 3% on stronger pricing and a higher customer count.
Earnings climbed to $4.7 million, or $1.44 a share, from $4.5 million, or $1.34, during the same period last year.
The results included Easter sales, which last year occurred in the first quarter, and an expense of $1.8 million related to the company’s stock-based employee incentive program.
Revenue in the quarter grew 2% to $119.1 million from the same period a year earlier.
