IN reading about the book written by the wife of The Times’ op-ed editor [“Who Invited Her to the Party?” by Josh Getlin, Aug. 8], I wondered, did Amy Wilentz’s search for “L.A.’s intellectual community” ever take her outside of an area bounded by Hancock Park (on the east), Pacific Palisades (on the west), Sunset (on the north) and Wilshire (on the south)? Or, as a nouvelle arrivee, didn’t she know any better than to take the advice of her acquaintances in that close-knit, self-important community that there was no “intellectual community” anywhere else?
