Children exploring trails while their mother walked nearby along a timber road stumbled across bones believed to be the remains of a Bay Area man reported missing 26 years ago, authorities said.
The missing person’s identity will not be revealed until forensic officials can confirm that the bones are his, said Mendocino County Sheriff’s Lt. D.J. Miller. Deputies recovered a skull, bones and clothing remnants on a hillside off Big River Haul Road on Saturday, a day after the children found them, Miller said.
