Crews Have Canyon Fire Nearly Contained

Firefighters on Saturday were on the brink of containing a stubborn brush fire that swept across acres of canyon land this week in northeastern Orange County.
By late Saturday, officials said, the Sierra fire, which began early Monday on the Santa Ana Mountain peak of that name, had consumed 10,854 acres and was 96% contained.
Full containment was expected by 6 tonight, said Capt. Stephen Miller, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
About 560 firefighters remained to tamp down the last flames and guard against rekindling in hazardous conditions expected to continue through Monday, Miller said.
