Man Gets 30 Years to Life in Fatal Crash

A Sanger man has been sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for a 2003 high-speed crash that killed his pregnant girlfriend and a Fresno County sheriff’s deputy.
Agustin Alejandro Zapata, 21, was sentenced Wednesday in Fresno County Superior Court. He was convicted Dec. 19 on three counts of second-degree murder, which included the death of the fetus.
Zapata was driving a stolen car that crashed into 27-year-old Joshua Lancaster’s patrol car on a rural road south of Fresno. Zapata’s girlfriend, Lorena Rodriguez, 17, was in the passenger seat of the stolen car. She and the deputy died instantly.
