Kuwait’s ailing Sheik Saad al Abdullah al Sabah is expected to abdicate today, ending a weeklong succession crisis in the oil-producing state, ruling family sources said.

Jabbar has wide support, but by taking over from Saad, he would interrupt a tradition of alternating power between the two branches of the Sabah dynasty.
