6 Former Guantanamo Inmates Face Charges

Six Frenchmen freed by the U.S. after years in prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, went on trial in a Paris court on charges of links to terrorism.
The suspects had been detained in late 2001 in or near Afghanistan after the U.S.-led invasion to depose the Taliban government.
They face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Defendant Imad Kanouni told the court he went to Afghanistan to pursue religious education. Nizar Sassi denounced the U.S. prison camp.
