Loewenstein Takes Superintendent Post

Sheri Loewenstein, one of five top administrators who have fled the beleaguered Westminster School District over the last year, was named superintendent of the Cypress School District.
Loewenstein, who will begin July 1, resigned from the Westminster district in November after 16 years, including 16 months as superintendent.
The Westminster district has been marked by political strife in recent years, most recently last month when it offered a prominent Vietnamese American woman the superintendent’s post, then rescinded the offer a week later, outraging the city’s large Vietnamese community.
In 2004, the district nearly lost millions of dollars in state and federal funding for refusing to adopt the wording of a state antidiscrimination regulation protecting transsexuals and others.
