Heat Gets Eighth Straight Win, 95-93

From the Associated Press

Derek Anderson wasted no time in making a big contribution to Miami.

Anderson’s hustle set up Alonzo Mourning’s dunk with 1.8 seconds remaining that gave the Heat its first lead of the game, and Miami beat the Atlanta Hawks, 95-93, at home Saturday for its season-high eighth straight victory.

“I had an opportunity to make a play that I’ve been making for nine years,” said Anderson, who made his Heat debut after not dressing for three games after a Feb. 23 trade with Houston.

“I didn’t know I was going to play. You have to be ready when called upon.”

Shaquille O’Neal had 21 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 3 minutes 45 seconds left for Miami, which overcame a 17-point deficit despite playing without Dwyane Wade.
