Rooftop Fire Erupts at Brooklyn Police Station

A fire erupted on the roof of a police station and a firehouse in downtown Brooklyn, causing construction workers’ gas tanks to explode and shoot fireballs into the sky. One of the tanks was blown across the street, landing near a ramp for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
Three 100-pound propane cylinders exploded, but the 10 workers tarring the roof escaped unharmed, the Fire Department said.
A kettle of boiling tar for roof repair got too hot and caught fire, the Fire Department said.
