Fungus Danger Found in Hospital Air System

A potentially lethal fungus was found in the ventilation system of Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, four years after an outbreak was linked to a death.
Two hospital directors were asked to resign and the state Department of Health Services was called in after aspergillus was found in the hospital ventilation system in March.
No patients fell ill, said Gary Fybel, the hospital’s chief executive. Aspergillus can be lethal when inhaled by people with weakened immune systems.
