‘Mediocre’ Is in the Eye of the Beholder

There is no way that anybody in this country could have read Steve Henson’s [May 19] article regarding the National League West without laughing aloud.
Talking about the NL West, Brett Tomko is quoted as saying: “There are a lot of good ballclubs and no really weak ones, like in years past.” Olmedo Saenz is quoted as saying, “Nobody is going to fade away and nobody is going to run away.”
Is the NL West a “tough” division now because all the teams participating in it are performing at a very marginally accepted .500? This group of NL West teams has simply been beating up on each other.
