Filming in China

I wondered if it were just a freak coincidence to have [Carina] Chocano’s Q&A; on “The Promise” [“A Director With Change on His Mind,” May 14] published at the same time as a report on Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” considering the ecological ruining by Chen Kaige and his work!

I refer to this report released by Xinhua [New China] News in China: https://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-05/15/content_4548451.htm. There are pictures and articles explaining the destruction left by this film crew.

Perhaps Chocano and her editor were not aware of the controversy.

From the article’s links you may find the impacts from Chen’s production. It’s very unlikely that we’ll ever get any “spectacular” scenes from future Chinese, as well as international, film productions in China again, due to Chen’s and his production company’s work.
