BATON ROUGE, La. — A gunman at Ministry of Jesus Christ church killed four of his wife’s relatives Sunday morning and wounded her mother -- the minister -- before abducting his wife and her three children, authorities said. He later shot his wife to death elsewhere, they said.
The suspect, Anthony Bell, 25, of Baton Rouge, was captured and his wife’s body found at a nearby apartment complex. Her children were not harmed. It was not clear whether Bell was the children’s father.
“This is going to be one of the worst days in the history of our city,” said Police Chief Jeff LeDuff , who did not know a motive for the shooting.
Bell was charged with the murder of his wife and her grandparents, great-aunt and cousin, officials and relatives said. His wife’s mother was in serious condition, police said.
