“If music be the food of love, play on ... ,” or so said the Bard. And if that music is served alfresco on a beautiful Southern California day for free -- so much the better!
The Playboy Jazz Festival will present more than 19 hours of top-flight jazz, R&B;, Latin and world music this weekend as part of the 17th annual Pasadena SummerFest at the Rose Bowl. Jazz guitarist Grant Geissman and his quintet top the lineup Saturday; Grammy-winning Latin jazz percussionist and bandleader Poncho Sanchez anchors Sunday’s show and Monday’s headliner will be smooth jazz saxophonist Michael Lington. Others performing this weekend include the B-Side Players and the Jumpin’ Joz Band (Saturday); the Dave Pell Octet and Bill Cunliffe’s Imaginacion (Sunday); and Dwight Trible, the Hour Trio and David Garfield (Monday).
