Man on Trial Shot Self, Family, Police Surmise

A man standing trial on sexual assault charges apparently killed his wife, their two children and himself hours before he was to testify, authorities said in Millville.
The bodies of Scott McCarter, 40; his wife, Wendy, 35; and their 12-year-old son, Scotty, and 8-year-old daughter, Melanie; were discovered by a friend who went to check on McCarter when he didn’t show up in court.
Authorities weren’t sure whether the shootings were triggered by the court case, in which McCarter was accused of sexually assaulting two teenage girls between 2001 and 2004.
