A 2-year-old girl struck by a 14-year-old driving illegally Tuesday in San Jacinto is in stable condition and is expected to leave the hospital today without significant injuries, police said.
Marissa Diaz was hit Tuesday afternoon on Cypress Drive east of Chase Street and briefly trapped under the van driven by the teenage girl, who reportedly did not see her run into the street toward her mother.
The driver, whom police would not name because she is a minor, faces charges of driving without a license, but San Jacinto Police Sgt. Brian Tonseth said investigators would not pursue additional charges because there was “no indication of improper driving negligence.”
Tonseth said the driver was not speeding at the time. Authorities considered child endangerment charges against the driver’s parents but determined that the girl’s illegal trip -- to pick up her brother at school -- was a “one-time deal,” Tonseth said.
