Woman to Head LAPD Training Academy

Police Chief William J. Bratton announced a series of promotions Tuesday, including the elevation of Capt. Sandy Jo MacArthur to commander. She will become the first woman to oversee the department’s training academy. MacArthur is commanding officer of the Civil Rights Integrity Division.
In addition, Cmdr. Mark Perez was promoted to deputy chief, effective last month, and will take over as commanding officer of the Professional Standards Bureau. He is replacing Michael Berkow, who is leaving to become chief of the Savannah, Ga., Police Department.
