Soldiers Held After Anti-Terrorism Raids

Belgian police raided five army barracks and many soldiers’ homes across the northern Flanders region in an investigation of alleged extreme-right activists suspected of planning attacks.
Federal Prosecutor Daniel Bernard told a news conference that 17 people, mostly soldiers, had been detained in connection with terrorist activity, racism and weapons violations.
“There was no concrete attack plan in terms of time and place,” Dendermonde Police Chief Luc Boterberg said. His unit led the raids, in which a homemade bomb, land mine detonators, ammunition and neo-Nazi propaganda were found.
