An alloy to the cause

“Metal Jazz” (July 29) was hilarious for the fact that Greg Burk seems shocked that there is an audience out there for this type of musicianship. Last week I went to the Hollywood Bowl, along with about 15,000 other people, to see Rush. They put on a show that could give today’s flavor-of-the-month bands a run for their money, and most of those bands won’t be together in 30 years as Rush has been. Top-notch musicianship is one of the main reasons people come to see bands such as this -- the know-how to play their instruments. They don’t have to drone on with two chords and tons of distortion to achieve an audience; the true music fan will come anyway. I have, and I’ve been doing it since 1980.
