Oakland 9, at Texas 7 (13 innings): Mike Piazza singled in the go-ahead run in the 13th inning -- the Athletics’ first hit since the fifth inning -- and seven Oakland pitchers combined for 21 strikeouts. Marco Scutaro hit a grand slam in the first inning to help the A’s build a 7-0 lead. The Rangers tied it in the ninth on Michael Young’s home run.
Cleveland 4, at Minnesota 0: Paul Byrd (10-4) pitched a four-hitter and Travis Hafner homered to silence the Twins, who have scored more than four runs only once in their last 14 games.
at Detroit 6, Tampa Bay 4: Ryan Raburn hit a tiebreaking single in a four-run seventh inning for the Tigers, who ended their longest losing steak of the season at five games.
New York 5, at Toronto 4: Robinson Cano hit a go-ahead, two-run double in a four-run sixth inning, and Andy Pettitte (8-7) won consecutive starts for the first time this season.
at Angels 4, Boston 2: Maicer Izturis hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning against Curt Schilling, who had just returned from the disabled list.
