A 23-year-old man and his 2-year-old son were found shot to death Sunday morning in a car on the shoulder of the southbound 710 Freeway near Long Beach, authorities said.
Darnell Davis of Compton and his son, Darnell junior, were identified by police as the two people inside the black sedan near the intersection of the 710 and 91 freeways.
California Highway Patrol officers made the discovery shortly before 8 a.m., said Long Beach police spokeswoman Jackie Bezart. “They came across this vehicle thinking it might be a driver in distress,” Bezart said. “When they approached the vehicle, they saw the bodies inside and contacted Long Beach police.”
Bezart said the driver’s window was shot out, and the car did not appear to have been in a wreck. Long Beach homicide detectives were investigating the shootings and released no other information. No motive has been determined, Bezart said, adding, “We have nothing to indicate that it was gang-related.”
