Teddi Winograd, 87; Democratic activist started clothing firm

Teddi Winograd, 87, a founder of Teddi of California sportswear for women and a political activist who supported Democratic candidates and causes, died Tuesday at her home in Beverly Hills. The cause was cancer, her daughter Marcy said.
As a member of Progressive Democrats of America, Winograd held monthly meetings at her home, as well as the Great Minds Series, which she founded for discussions on social and political issues. Featured speakers in the series have included essayist and novelist Gore Vidal and former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega.
She was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Philadelphia and launched her clothing company with her husband, Sam, in 1962. They later sold the business.
Winograd also helped establish a full-service center for Parkinson’s patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the early 1990s.
