Re “Why won’t The Times talk tax hikes?” Opinion, Dec. 9
Robert Cruickshank captures the pathology that has infected not only The Times but also our Legislature and governor. The Times has perpetuated nonsense economics since the passage of Proposition 13, which was a mandate against all taxation only in the fantasies of Luddite politicians who chose to make hay instead of making sense.
As long as journalists and our legislators choose to fear the public for enacting sensible and prudent state economic policies, California is headed into bankruptcy. The Times should provide light instead of heat to the public debate.
