Wyeth menopause drug gets an OK

From Times Wire Services

The Food and Drug Administration said it had sent an “approvable letter” to Wyeth, which is seeking to sell a new drug to treat women with hot flashes from menopause.

An approvable letter means the FDA will clear a drug for sale if certain conditions are met. The FDA typically does not disclose the specific conditions.

The drug, Pristiq, is the first nonhormonal treatment for hot flashes.
