Re “France elects U.S. ally Sarkozy,” May 7
It will be nice if the new president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, translates his “friendship and support” to the United States by sending about 20,000 troops to Iraq.

In his acceptance speech, Sarkozy said: “I want to rehabilitate work, authority, morality, respect, merit. I want to restore the honor of the nation and the national identity.” Oh, that we had a candidate like that to vote for.

Despite Americans’ tendency to enjoy ridiculing France and its citizens, it is admirable to see its 85% voter turnout for a national election. That is one behavior we can only hope to emulate.
