MEXICO CITY — A gang that used flirtatious young women to rob men after drugging their drinks, resulting in 23 deaths, has been busted, police said.
Evidence released Friday by Mexico City prosecutors revealed a scheme that operated in 10 states for several years.
Known as the goteras, or eyedroppers, for allegedly tranquilizing victims with eyedrops and other drugs, the gang is suspected in dozens of robberies since 2004, according to the Mexico City attorney general’s office. At least one American was robbed but did not die.
Authorities said that five men and five women had been arrested and that more arrests were possible.
