Students deserve some relief on loans

Re “House OKs student loan overhaul bill,” May 10
It is nice that the House has passed a bill to address conflicts of interest in the widening student loan market scandal, but what is Congress doing to address the overpayments and scams that have plagued the students and parents who have taken out these loans?
I believe that these scandals go back to 2003 or so, and I think Congress should forgive some portion of student loans taken out from then through now. Or Congress can readdress its terrible decision to increase the interest rates from 3.4% to more than 6% in the last year or two. It is fine that Congress has decided to protect new student lenders, but how about some relief for those who were taken advantage of?
