China sentenced the former head of the State Food and Drug Administration to death for corruption, state media reported. Zheng Xiaoyu was convicted on charges of taking bribes and dereliction of duty, the New China News Agency said.
Zheng, 62, led the agency from 1998 to 2005 but was expelled from the Communist Party this year after investigators said he abused his office to obtain bribes and win illegal profits from drug firms.
