AT&T; Inc. said it would spend more than planned on U-verse, but it scaled back its outlook on how widely the high-speed Internet and video service would be available by the end of 2008.
The San Antonio-based phone company said it expected total spending on the service from January 2007 to the end of 2008 to be $4.5 billion to $5 billion, up $500 million from its previous outlook.
AT&T; said it expected to make U-verse, which aims to compete with cable providers’ all-in-one packages of Internet, phone and video, available to about 17 million homes by the end of 2008, down from a previous target of 18 million homes.
