Take off the halos

Two weeks ago I sent in a letter questioning why the Angels were not aggressively trying to get the home-field advantage in the playoffs. Last week I sent in a letter decrying the Angels’ lack of playoff offense. Given what’s happened since, I have nothing to add at this time.

Let’s compare the Angels and the Red Sox:
We have Shields and Rodriguez flinging the ball toward the plate and hoping that someone will swing at a bad pitch. They have Papelbon, who coolly throws strikes and blows everyone away.
Vlad wildly swings at every pitch. Ortiz and Ramirez calmly take walks until someone throws a strike and they then hammer it over the fence.
Why did I think we had a chance?

As a longtime Angels season-ticket holder I had some small measure of consolation at the team’s dismal performance against Boston. Fortunately, it was the Los Angeles Angels and not the Anaheim Angels.

I want to congratulate Bill Stoneman on making it through another season without trading his prospects. As this is the main function of the general manager, he has now performed his task at a consistently high level for three years running.
Can’t wait to see those prospects win another division title and score four runs in three postseason games.

Note to Arte Moreno and Bill Stoneman: He who never gambles never wins big.
