A City Council member representing the beach areas called Tuesday for a ban on alcohol on local beaches after a Labor Day brawl at Pacific Beach led to 22 arrests on suspicion of fighting and public intoxication.
Councilman Kevin Faulconer said he wants the current ban at La Jolla to be extended to Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach and Mission Beach.
Police in riot gear broke up a fight among dozens of young men Monday.
In 2002, voters narrowly defeated a proposed ban on alcohol on beaches.
